i got really into music photography this year. partly because there’s always so much music to enjoy in Tacoma, but also because a friend of mine has been throwing hardcore shows in her basement. learning the rhythm of hardcore was important to composing shots and capturing the artists at the right moment. there is so much movement in hardcore, i had to learn to go with the flow of the pit and, importantly, to not use my viewfinder because it creates quite the tunnel vision and leaves me open to taking a windmill kick to the face.
you cannot deny the artistry on display in Tacoma. there is no shortage of talent and i’m grateful to have been able to document a small portion of the local arts scene. here’s to more in 2023!
